Welcome to Grampian SSAC

We are one of the most active dive clubs in the northeast of Scotland. Our membership of around 40+ divers carry out hundreds of dives every year (and no, we do not stop over the winter!). We dive locally (east coast and Moray Firth), in the west coast, the islands (even St. Kilda!) and abroad. We dive from inflatables, hard boats and the shore. We do wreck dives, night dives, drift dives, decompression dives, and lots, lots of shallow, easy, scenic dives. We’ll camp, live aboard charter boats and stay in self-catering accommodation (the extremely high standards of our communal cooking are hard to beat!). If you want good, varied and safe diving in a very relaxed and friendly environment, then we are the club for you!!! Enjoy a browse through our website.

We are very committed to diver training, at basic and more advanced levels, including a wide range of speciality courses (in-house and SSAC-organised). We are purely voluntary and consequently our aim is to train, not to profit, but our standards are fully professional. We also welcome divers from other organisations - your level of training and experience will be taken into account in your cross-over! Please have a look at our training page.

If you want to join us before Nov. 2012 ...

Now that our pool season has ended, anyone wanting to learn to dive with us from scratch will need to wait until our 2012-13 pool season starts in Nov. Please get in touch (see Contact Us section) and we'll get back to you once we know the start date and our time slot at the pool, although the latter is unlikely to change from Mon. nights (20:15-22:00) at the Aberdeen Grammar School.

Note that qualified divers can join us anytime - we may even be able to arrange some dedicated pool or confined open water training where required, depending on experience and qualifications.

The picture gallery of the 2012 Burns Supper diving weekend in Loch Duich has now been posted in the Gallery section (thanks to Lil, who took the pics). Enjoy!

(and another, and another!) end-of-pool-season date

[update to the news item below: there was another pool closure on 27 Feb. so the pool season has been once again extended by a week - last session on 19 MARCH now]

Following a lost session due to pool closure AND another due to in-service days, our pool season has been extended by TWO weeks and will now end on 12 MARCH (not 5 Mar. as per previous announcement).

SUUNTO award winner

Delighted to announce that Alex Gallego is a recipient of this years SUUNTO award for exceptional contribution to the sport. Over the years Alex has worked very hard to promote sport diving through his various adventures in big holes in the ground and diving on previously unexplored wrecks, but more importantly, through his duties as BDO of Grampian branch, encouraging new divers into the sport and cajoling more established members towards further development of their skills.

end-of-2011 news

At the end of October we held a successful second-ever SSAC Deep Diving Course, with classroom sessions in Aberdeen and open water drills on the wreck of the Moray (off Cullen Bay), exactly the same as in 2005. Well done to all those who took part!

After that, the new pool training season started and things are in full swing already. Our new trainees are already getting through the various pool drills and theory sessions will start very soon.
